First Indian Carrier to join Star Alliance

Air India becomes the first Indian Airline to join the largest global airline group, Star Alliance.

Air India is delighted in being invited to join Star Alliance,'' Vasudevan Thulasidas, chairman and managing director at Air India, said in a statement. This invitation comes in the wake of Air India's merger with India's leading domestic carrier, Indian Airlines, thus making Air India the prime player in the Indian subcontinent,'' Thulasidas said

Other Airlines who are part of the Star Alliance Network are:

  2. Air New Zealand
  3. All Nippon Airways
  4. Asiana Airlines
  5. Austrian Airlines
  6. British Midland
  7. Lot Polish Airlines
  8. Lufthansa
  9. Qantas Airways
  10. Scandinavian Airlines System
  11. Shanghai Airline
  12. Singapore Airline
  13. South African Airways
  14. Span Air
  15. Swiss International Airlines
  16. TAP Portugal
  17. Thai Airways
  18. United Airlines
  19. US Airways

Other two global airline groups are Sky Team and One World Alliance. The carrier will gain access to the more than 16,000 daily flights operated by Lufthansa, United Airlines and the other 17 Star members.

We hope that by joining International Airlines Group, services of Air India and Indian will improve to global standards.
